How the count works

Mail ballots that arrived before election day are counted first, so the early results lean towards the candidate who did better by mail. In-person votes from the 64 precincts follow through the evening.

Ballots postmarked by election day still count if they arrive by Friday, so a close race may not be called tonight. The county has 30 days to certify the result.
